1. Aptitude Assessment
2. Personality Assessment-The Big 5 Personality.
3. Interest Assessment-RIASEC Test
1. Aptitude: Aptitude comes from the word ‘Aptos’ meaning fitted for. Aptitude is defined as a natural or inherent ability to do something. They are, inborn characteristics that make you special and excel in an activity more than others. That is why someone can be gifted in music but can barely draw while another struggles to sing but is prolific in drawing and painting. An individual’s aptitudes determine whether he will be successful in a particular field or not.
It is an inborn potential to do certain kinds of work whether developed or undeveloped. These aptitudes may be physical or mental.
An aptitude test is any type of assessment that determines a person’s inborn potential in a particular skill or to perform a certain task, with no prior knowledge and training. It does not test knowledge; it is not a test for which one can study. The minimum age for testing is fourteen, and maximum age is thirty.
Aptitude Assessment can be an invaluable tool for making career and educational decisions. For e.g.; if you are considering a career in the IT field; then aptitudes in reasoning, spatial clerical etc. may be required. On the other hand, careers such as finance; aptitude in numerical, verbal and reasoning are needed.
2. Personality: Personality is defined as the form of characteristic thoughts, feelings and. behavior that differentiate one individual from the other and it persists over time. Personality embraces moods, attitudes, and opinions and is most clearly expressed in interactions with other people. It comprises a person’s unique adjustment to life, including major traits, interests, drives, values, self-concept, abilities, and emotional patterns.
Personality test, assess your personality and typical behavioral style in different situations and preferred way of going about things in relation to a job, workplace and work culture. For a sales job, employers may want someone who is vey forwards, sociable and persuasive.
The Big Five model can help us understand the individual differences in personality that can influence how people perceive and react to the world around them. This can be useful for personal development, counseling, and management. The Big Five personality traits (sometimes known as the five-factor model of personality or OCEAN or CANOE models) are a group of five characteristics used to study personality.
Help students to understand what motivates them, their interests, emotional states, and how they
interact with the world. Thus, get a better understanding of the psychology behind the person.
Thus, personality traits are not just a useful way to describe people you know; they actually help psychologists predict how good someone will be and the types of jobs and activities the person will enjoy.
3. Interest: It is a feeling that accompanies or causes special attention to something or someone. It can be on something or someone that arouses such attention. It is a quality in a thing or person arousing interest. If you have an interest in something, you would want to learn or hear more about it. For example, there has been a lively interest in the elections in the last two weeks. His parents tried to discourage his interest in music, but he persisted.
It is defined as a feeling of liking associated with an activity. Interests are shaped by both heredity and environment and vary between individuals and may change over time. It is a feeling or emotion that causes attention to focus on an object, event or process. It can be also termed as a curiosity and to a much lesser degree surprise. There are different types of interests
including intrinsic, extrinsic, expressed and manifested.
RIASEC stands for 6 characteristics: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. The RIASEC test asks questions about your aspirations, activities, skills and interests in different activities or jobs to help you discover careers and fields of study that are likely to satisfy you.
This mix of basic interests is highly predictive and provides clarity of what careers you are likely to enjoy and excel at. Your RIASEC code will help you understand the type of work tasks that you are inclined to do and this helps you to have a better idea of your preferences, allowing you to shortlist and evaluate your career and work choices.
Using the RIASEC model can provide many advantages for your career planning and development.
